Children diagnosed with:
• Pervasive Developmental Delay-Not Otherwise Specified (P.D.D. / N.O.S)
• Asperger and other Syndromes
• Behavioural and Emotional Problems
• Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D) and ADHD
• Children with Dyspraxia
• Children who have Autism and comorbid problems- deafness,, blindness, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy
• Specific learning problems
• Mainstream children who need learning support
SNAP offers a variety of options both in the Northern Suburbs at the centre as well as in the Southern Suburbs focusing on home programmes, facilitation and learning support.
When a child starts on the SNAP programme, it is highly recommended that one-on-one intervention is given by way of tutoring in order to help improve the developmental delays these children often struggle with. A variety of methods are used with a high success rate. Interventions include Applied Behaviour Analysis, TEACCH, Floortime, RDI, Makaton, PECS and many other internationally proven methods.
Each child receives a unique tutoring programme designed specifically for the needs of the particular child. A Programme Manager is involved in each Home Programme and responsible for designing, managing, monitoring and upgrading each child’s individual programme according to their achievements and developmental needs. The Programme Manager also selects, assigns and manages the tutors who will be working closely with the child in their home.
Having one-on-one sessions in your home enables SNAP to empower the family in a number of ways such as addressing any behavioural problems at home, generalising information by using the available apparatus in and around home and having the parents included in the sessions where possible.
Parents are advised to take a pro-active approach in their child’s education. This is done by sitting in during tutor sessions, following advice on how to implement and follow through with the SNAP principles.
Facilitation of a child at a Mainstream School
The role of a facilitator is to assist and support the learner in situations that are too difficult for him/her to deal with in class/group situation. The facilitator also assists and supports the teacher. The child’s progress in the school environment is strictly monitored by a Programme Manager and suggestions and advice given to both parents, the facilitator and teachers.
In the Southern Suburbs we offer Learning Support for those children who may need the extra one-on-one input in the afternoons with regards to their current school work, any developmental delays or social skills that may need attention. The learning support is offered to any children with specific learning disorders whether the child is in mainstream or special needs schools.
